I've seen this be used for providing a space to explore 3D scans of an abandoned mining town in California: https://poly.cam/cerro-gordo https://poly.cam/cerro-gordo. I think there's definitely some cool applications along those lines of providing a way to interact with real physical locations virtually with other people at the same time.
