Collapse of the Covid Regime?
- jleyank 5y agoMatch the response to the threat: 1) we don’t know how bad it is and we have nothing to counter it. 2) ok, it’s not terrible for some, some existing drugs counter what seems to be the fatal mechanism. Boy we miss grandma. 3) 10+ year research yields vaccines which is amazing. Fortunately they appeared before it turned worse. 4) lots of people didn’t take the vaccine and it turned worse. Damn. 5) the world rolled a 20 and with the help of another species or hiv-infected jump it turned mild. Well, mild for those vaccinated. Pity stupid loudmouths keep dying. And, it was infectious as hell which (hopefully) turns it endemic. Men in Black said it best: A person is smart, people are dumb, panicky animals. Society, for the most part, moved to protect people in spite of themselves. The hated pharma business applied its 10-20+ years of expertise in antibody-based drugs. Public health used the lessons of SARS and MERS to quickly act vs cytokine storm. Policy whiplashed due to the lack of collaboration in politics - opposition merely gainsaid actions. Before you pat yourself on the back or imagine all that was unnecessary (remember grandma?), imagine if covid turned out to be a contagious SARS that beat up people 30-50.
