Major crypto exchanges refuse to freeze all Russian user accounts
- skilled 5y agoDisclaimer: I'm only posting the link to the article. I have nothing against Russian people and don't want to leave the wrong impression. Like most people, I'm against any kind of war and know that Russian people have nothing to do with high-level political decisions.
- smt88 5y ago> know that Russian people have nothing to do with high-level political decisions True, but Putin can only be stopped internally. The whole point of sanctions is to make it so that Russian people do have something to do with "political" decisions. I've seen Russians on HN saying this war has nothing to do with them. That's exactly the point of the sanctions: to change their minds. Because however little it has to do with Russians, it has even less to do with Ukrainians and the stakes for them are much higher.
- throwaway290 5y agoFreezing Russian-held croins on exchanges would mean anyone (this includes both the .001% and Putin as well as e.g. my classmates who just have their basic needs covered) could still use them (to hoard wealth or transact), they would just henceforth avoid any of participating exchanges like plague, no?
