This morning they defaced multiple Russian and Belorussian news agency websites, replaced their pages with an anti war message, I caught it live.
The biggest affected sites were https://www.onliner.by/ https://www.onliner.by/ and https://tass.ru/ https://tass.ru/
- rosndo 5y agoWho “they”? Some foreign intelligence service? Sure. Not the people calling themselves “Anonymous” on twitter.
- willis936 5y agoAnonymous on twitter claimed it and the sites had memes that smelled like Encyclopedia Dramatica.
- rosndo 5y agoThere are hundreds of “Anonymous” accounts on twitter competing to claim credit for everything possible. Let me remind you that Russian intelligence services have been waving this very same flag https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/news/fancy-bears-who-are-hacking-group-doping-sport-football-russia-georgia-reedie-bach-a7906376.html https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/news/fancy-bear...
- willis936 5y agoAre you suggesting Russian intelligence took down their own sites? It hasn't been used to justify counterattacks, so I don't see what the benefit would be.
- rosndo 5y agoNot at all what I’m saying. I suggesting that you should try to differentiate between the work of intelligence services and some “decentralized hacker collective”.
- willis936 5y agoPlease pardon the question because your higher comment seemed to imply this line of logic. Speculation of the identity of Anonymous doesn't do much because it's an unfalsifiable framework no matter what the claim is. Even higher you said that the people taking down the sites and Anonymous twitter accounts were not the same. They likely are the same because they use the same branding. Whether or not the person behind the screen is a government operative is a separate question subject to speculation (that I am not disputing).
- rosndo 5y ago> They likely are the same because they use the same branding. This is completely wrong. You will find all of these things claimed by many “Anonymous” accounts run by different people with zero connections between each other. You severely underestimate how popular this hobby is.
