Ask HN: Russian hackers, how are things?
Hey fellow coders in Russia. What is it like to live in Russia right now? How are you informed about the news? How much has changed in the everyday life? Please share your thoughts. Thanks!
- throwaway290 5y agoIndependently thinking people in my circle (not hacker hackers, engineers and software/hardware folks) are in a bit of a shock. Networking infrastructure sometimes behaves unpredictably. People are buying basic goods and things that do not expire fast. Bracing for the unpredictable (some while hoping for the best, others not so much). Those outside of Russia but who have to use Russian banks (because international prepaid debit plastic banned them already years back) are preparing to be financially stranded.
- agent008t 5y agoA quick browse of some Russian forums (ixbt, rsdn) shows a significant, loud support for the official Russian govt line. Subjectively, how does it look to you? Do your coworkers, neighbours, relatives appear to be supporting the war?
- throwaway290 5y agoNo one I know, but maybe it's just my echo chamber. Russian IT industry petitions the government to stop the 'special military operation' with more than 30k signatures so far. Edit: I checked the petition text[0] and it says not 'war' but 'special military operation'. If they wrote 'war', obviously Putler could have said "there is no war, so wontfix".
