That is a good point of correction. It looks like Google's Data Liberation Front was formed (at least in part) in order to abide by government regulations, certifications, and procure more business (https://fcw.com/2010/09/google-apps-government-reach-grows/223360/ https://fcw.com/2010/09/google-apps-government-reach-grows/2...), but not at the behest of the EU.
