EU to ban Russia’s RT, Sputnik media outlets, von der Leyen says
- throwaway4good 5y agoI always thought that RT was extremely effective in its communication. It is my impression that it has a very large western viewership. I guess they will be removed from Youtube now? Will they block rt.com from dns or maybe even by ip?
- DyslexicAtheist 5y agoI think what it means is the company has to close down it's physical offices throughout Europe, will be unable to hire European staff on a EUR payroll etc. For them to get kicked off YT/FB etc the US would have to act which I doubt will happen. But who knows it's war so expect a lot if unusual things.
- throwaway4good 5y agoYoutube will close access if requested by a particular country. Eg. I think Youtube in Ukraine (and Poland?) don't show RT anymore. Also countries can ask ISPs to remove rt.com from their dns-gateways; quite common where I am where a number of pirate and gambling sites are removed in this manner.
- DyslexicAtheist 5y agoYou're right ofc. From my perception of the US it seems it takes a long time to cancel things (which is probably a good thing). So it's more likely they do it on a country basis as you described and not drop those channels globally.
- ashwagary 5y agoThe Great European Firewall is being built it seems. This is not great for people that discover the truth by objectively assessing the narratives and facts from both (or more) sides of a conflict.
