First thing that struck me is how many Chinese made weapons are being used by Ukraine and some by Russia.
Looking them up seems some were first designed in Russia by now made in China?
- pixl97 5y agoIs it really that much different than the large amount of arms made by the US? The fact that China tends to be very price competitive on manufacturing costs I'm sure will have a massive effect here. Now, more speculation on my part, it seems very likely that China could subsidize weapons manufacturing to bolster the manufacture of weapons in its own country, and to be part of the feedback loop on what is effective and what is not and not have to be directly involved in the battle itself.
- revax 5y agoAccording to the name of the icon, it's the flag of the Soviet Union, not China. Edit: I would guess it's labelled Soviet when it's unclear which side the equipment come from.
- prima-facie 5y agoThose are definitely soviet from the naming scheme. The Chinese use a completely different naming scheme https://man.fas.org/dod-101/sys/land/row/index.html https://man.fas.org/dod-101/sys/land/row/index.html
- enkid 5y agoRussia and Ukraine still use a lot of equipment that was built when the USSR was a single entity.
- userbinator 5y agoThey are indeed quite similar from a distance: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_the_Soviet_Union https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_the_Soviet_Union https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_china https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_china
- optimalsolver 5y agoStar of the show on the Ukrainian side is the Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 drone. It's already obliterated some Russian convoys. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baykar_Bayraktar_TB2 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baykar_Bayraktar_TB2
