Twitch and OnlyFans block all users from Russia due to sanctions
- Areibman 5y agoWhy are these companies grouped together in the headline? Is this a subtle jab at Twitch that they serve the same content as OnlyFans?
- f311a 5y agoI can't find any sources on this. That's fake. I see a lot of Russian streamers who stream right now.
- tedivm 5y agoIt took me two seconds one twitter to find a ton of onlyfans creators complaining about this. They aren't being banned from using the site- so they can still stream and sell stuff- but they are being blocked from cashing out their earnings. It makes sense that people are still using the site, as this block is probably temporary and they will get access to the money eventually. From a technical standpoint it looks like the sites just "unverified" the bank connections, and aren't allowing new ones. It seems like part of this is due to the fact that these sites used one of the banks that is currently sanctioned to handle the money conversation. People are still allowed to transfer to PayPal and convert there, but the rates are much worse. Since Twitch and OnlyFans haven't made a statement it's also possible they're looking into using one of the banks that isn't sanctioned yet.
- smartties 5y agoI don't know if it's true. A quick look on reddit and it seems like some russian creators are affected : https://www.reddit.com/r/onlyfansadvice/comments/t2dubg/onlyfans_is_banning_russian_creators_and_do_not/ https://www.reddit.com/r/onlyfansadvice/comments/t2dubg/only...
- f311a 5y agoI only checked Twitch.
- ilrwbwrkhv 5y agoOnce again the common civilian pays the price
- rlt 5y agoAre there widespread protests by the common civilian in Russia right now? If not I have no sympathy.
- csydas 5y agoThere are. Please understand there are many voices in Russia, and many are furious and terrified.
- yucky 5y agoTerrified of losing access to Pornhub and OnlyFans?
- pixel_tracing 5y agoYes there are
- pteraspidomorph 5y agoI think there have been several attempts, but their government is cracking down on protests very swiftly. Many of them also have restricted information/are being outright gaslighted. We don't have much visibility over what's going on in Russia that's not government controlled, but it seems to me a lot of people over there are against this war. https://indianexpress.com/article/trending/trending-globally/russia-invades-ukraine-anti-war-rally-in-russian-cities-7790293/ https://indianexpress.com/article/trending/trending-globally... - hdjjhhvvhga 5y agoYes there are! Practically in every major city[0]. Moreover, they are threatened with up to 20 years of prison, so this has much more value than armchair criticism. Many of them are young people, risking all their youth[1]. - nest0r 5y agoThe monetization is frozen you can still use the sites.
- dogma1138 5y agoNow that is going to harm a lot of hard working Russians…
- haunter 5y agoBlog spam or fake/propaganda site? Why is this on HN Just look at the main page https://www.gamingdeputy.com/ https://www.gamingdeputy.com/
- muchtest 5y agoPornhub, Onlyfans and Twitch blocked in Russia - surely this is a positive thing for Russia.
- yucky 5y agoIt's funny because if you read past the headlines and try to understand the motivations of Russia, much of it boils down to wanting to "keep the more corrosive elements of US culture" at bay, which makes this a desired side-effect.
