Nine years ago I started my hobby project in Go (round about when v1.0 came out). I thought the language looked interesting, kind of like C without the hard parts and with the added benefits of concurrency and I was excited to learn it despite no-one having heard of it.
9 years later Go is not such a niche language. Rclone is doing ok too :-)
- jjice 5y agoThe ending game me a good laugh, Rclone is a fantastic tool.
- warent 5y agoNice! My server uses Restic with Rclone as its backend. Thank you!
- Tempest1981 5y agoI was happy to find that with Go, I can target my low-end NAS, which runs a Marvell Armada CPU. The binaries run just fine. (If this is easy with other compiled languages, let me know. Maybe gcc?)
- wazzaps 5y agoPretty easy with gcc: https://toolchains.bootlin.com/ https://toolchains.bootlin.com/
- bbertelsen 5y agorclone is wonderful. Really excellent software. Thank you for that!
- aluminum96 5y agoAnother really nice feature of Go is that the language preserves backwards compatibility. If you built a hobby project in some other 1.0 languages, you’d be pretty out of luck (ahem, looking at you, Dart).
