Russia pulls out of European spaceport, abandoning a planned launch
- uejfiweun 5y agoWhat I'm seeing out of this whole crisis is that the idea of a "strong, united, and independent" Europe is a complete joke. All the countries want different things and are too proud to take orders from each other. And the policies have been completely ruined by corruption. Germany is now so dependent on Russian gas that they basically have to pretend like Ukraine isn't getting invaded. These European governments have zero power and zero potential for a major central government or unified foreign policy. It's a total waste of time for the US to be allies with these nations when they are so deep in Russia's back pocket that they can't even sanction a massive invasion.
- MattGaiser 5y agoThey seem to have reached an agreement on SWIFT, so I am a bit hopeful.
- sharken 5y agoGermany is onboard it seems: https://www.euractiv.com/section/europe-s-east/news/russia-ban-from-swift-on-the-table-as-germany-drops-opposition/ https://www.euractiv.com/section/europe-s-east/news/russia-b... To really be effective, all efforts must now go to cut off Russia from the Chinese controlled CIPS payment system. That means China will have to declare if they are against Putin/Russia or not. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross-Border_Inter-Bank_Payments_System https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross-Border_Inter-Bank_Paym...
- trompetenaccoun 5y agoLike asking Hitler for assistance against Mussolini.
- sharken 5y agoYou are probably right, but with enough pressure even China might see there is only one side to support here.
