The article seems to hint that the block is made by Russian government, not from Twitter themselves, is there any way of confirming this either way? The title here on HN is a bit unclear as well if the block is made by Twitter or if the block is made by Russia.
- aix1 5y agoThis doesn't directly answer your question, but yesterday Roskomnadzor[1] has announced that they would "partially block" Facebook in Russia [2, 3]. - HlessClaudesman 5y agoRussian authorities, they realise how badly it is going, scared of an informed populace.
- iso1210 5y ago> scared of an informed populace So why block twitter?
- johnisgood 5y agoHaha, indeed. I do not get informed on either Twitter or Facebook. Everyone is an expert there in everything, and 99% is bullshit.
- lifty 5y agoTwitter has been a great source of information during this invasion. There are a few lists of reliable journalists that produce content around the clock.
- aix1 5y agoThe handful of independent media that are still allowed to exist in Russia all got a written warning this morning requiring them to use the term "special operation" and not "war", "attack" or "invasion". - jacquesm 5y agoIt works. Russian commenter on HN used those exact same terms, so people really start to think in them.
- dunkelheit 5y agoNo official info from Roscomnadzor, and I wouldn't expect them to be shy about announcing it (in fact they already throttled twitter a few months ago).
- NelsonMinar 5y agoIt seems very unlikely that Twitter would block a whole country, particularly in the middle of a crisis like this.
