A long time ago I noticed that Internet cafe/computer lab users did not conceptualize things like “which operating system is being used” and simply looked for “familiar way to open a browser” So any home screen+icon+square application representation was fine for them at a certain point Ubuntu with just a browser icon reduced user error and friction
