This isn't a very great interview question. Testing detailed arcane knowledge is one thing, and it should be impressive if people know everything. But the web is a giant mess of technologies that nobody can really fully keep up with and I'd rather people spent that extra minute learning about another language or subject, than say the details of 'doctype'.
