I have a similar story. I was tasked with randomly generating strings to be sent out to customers as activation codes. These were shortish codes generated in a SQL script. I dutifully created the required code and it was handed to the testers. I then went on Christmas break. During my break I received a message asking if they sent the SQL to me would I change it to remove the vowels. As this was a fairly easy change I agreed and did it for them. When I then got back to the office I asked why they had asked for the change. Turns out if you generate a million random string you will end up with most rude words coming out. They referred to it as the random fuck generator.
