When I was younger I never understood why parents would be against schools teaching about gender, sexuality, etc.
Now that I: 1) Have children of my own, and, 2) See which people from my high school went on to become teachers, I get it.
These issues are complex, and full of nuances, and they touch on a lot of challenging moral issues. As a parent I strongly prefer to tackle these issues myself taking into account things like where my children are at in their emotional, physical, and spiritual development. What I don't want is some teacher who was a mediocre student reading off a state-sponsored curriculum that's been heavily influenced by politicians, and does not take into account any of the specific needs of an individual child.
More and more it seems like schools are trying their best to replace the role of the parent when what they should be doing is trying to be a partner for parents in their child's education.
