Ask HN: Are Russian customers under embargo?
With the sanctions on Russia, what impact will that have on processing payments from Russian customers?
I use Stripe to process monthly Subscriptions. Will credit card transactions bounce on their next renewal?

When the Reserve Bank of India introduced new rules regarding recurring transactions that all banks and payment processors had to comply with, Stripe put out a page on the topic.[1][2] [1] Recurring transactions for Stripe accounts in India (https://support.stripe.com/questions/recurring-transactions-for-stripe-accounts-in-india https://support.stripe.com/questions/recurring-transactions-...) - novaleaf 5y agothanks, the non-answer from Stripe: https://support.stripe.com/questions/impact-of-sanctions-on-russia-and-belarus https://support.stripe.com/questions/impact-of-sanctions-on-... Basically it seems like for Stripe, if the customer's bank is sanctioned your transactions will fail. Edit: there also doesn't seem to be an easy way to determine customer Bank.
- sinyug 5y agoAll this has happened before.[1] I guess the safest alternative is to screen customers from Belarus, Ukraine and Russia till the situation becomes clear. - simonblack 5y agoOld Business Proverb: "Never turn away a paying customer." If Stripe (and others) can't cut it, go to somewhere who can. If that means using a Japanese/Nigerian/Swiss/Singapore/Brasilian/other bank, so be it.
