I'm talking about doing mathematics, not just taking down the notation. Sure, I can type LaTeX too, but once I've typed an equation it still looks like a mess. The structure isn't obvious. It's not intuitively obvious how to eliminate some terms and rearrange it, the way it would be if I were writing it down longhand.
