A language picker with translated languages using wikidata
- yorwba 5y agoI have a few quibbles: - The ordering is still based on the language code, which is only kind of alphabetic, so one might need to scan the whole list to find a language or verify that it's not in the list. - The label for Simplified Chinese is 簡體中文, which does mean "Simplified Chinese", but it's in Traditional Chinese characters, and all the other language names are as well. - Wikidata item descriptions are made for Wikidata, which means they're often rather verbose, e.g. to distinguish "X language" from "X nationality". The CLDR has translated language names for use in language selectors that are more succinct. E.g "Galician" in Galician is simply "galego" instead of "lingua galega" https://unicode-org.github.io/cldr-staging/charts/latest/by_type/locale_display_names.languages__e-j_.html#58ff4884012bc33c https://unicode-org.github.io/cldr-staging/charts/latest/by_... I'd generally prefer the CLDR and only use Wikidata as a fallback.
