There are several paths, but probably the one with most return on investment is grinding leetcode. Start with easies, but aim to be able to solve mediums. That ought to prepare you for the majority of companies outside of the uppermost tier (FAANG, etc.) There are other paths to successfully breaking into a SWE career too, but leetcode is still arguably the most widely used. I've read stories in LinkedIn of people with completely non-technical backgrounds breaking into even FAANG tier companies by mastering leetcode interviews.
