Someone needs to get to work on retrofits to improve those vehicles. An electric assist could double the MPG. Stop & Start uses lot of gas. A battery, short range capable, coupled with a charging system to top it off, could handle much of the route at much higher efficiency, even allowing for the gas engine to idle, for example.
