We have a female stray dog on our street that had three pups[1] in one of its litters. One of the pups died one morning and we saw the mom and two siblings sitting near the dead body. While the body was disposed of that day, the family continued to visit and sit around the spot for the next couple of days.
This activity stopped after a while (don't know when). If this is not mourning, what is?
[1] The second one died when some idiot drove his vehicle over it. The third one disappeared a few months later.
- gigglesupstairs 5y agoI once witnessed a pup being crushed under car tires from around 50-70 meters - car was stationary when I first noticed him sleeping under it and I didn’t realize that there was a driver in it, ready to drive - when I did, I shouted like hell but he was gone in a flash.
- sinyug 5y agoThat is horrific. Watching an animal die a violent death would make me ill. I don't watch nature programs for the same reason.
- gigglesupstairs 5y agoIt was so surreal and traumatic, it’s hard to explain. And I don’t usually get repulsed from gore on tv but witnessing it first hand was an entirely different experience.
