What a great idea, I think we do something similar here in The Netherlands trough taxation! Dropping the sarcasm: our system is not at all perfect and without drastic changes quite unsustainable in the long term, but at least it's a controlled/controllable and distributive. Slightly off-topic: It's starting to become quite expensive though. For context, I'll be paying about €2k this year for the cheapest (mandatory) health insurance I could find and my ADHD meds which I cannot do without.
