The AI talent crises is real – and unlike the dot-com era
- giantg2 5y ago"But the data scientist whose only experience is online certificates and school isn’t going to create a system that can transform your business." The problem is that everyone is looking for someone to come in and transform the business. Imagine if businesses built a talent pipeline that allowed people to grow into that. I tried applying to ML positions twice in my company. The first time they said they wanted external candidates only for experts (why post an internal midlevel position?). The second time, it was for an ML engineer. It turns out that means they want a data jockey to clean and transform data. No real exposure to the model or solving the business problem. Apparently that's only for PhDs.
