and yet, I still want them to do it, because I think people should have the option of not needing to guess if their car has a new janky update before heading off in the morning.
- Karunamon 5y agoAt least in the case of Tesla, you have to approve updates since installing one makes the car unusable for 20 minutes to an hour.
- josephcsible 5y agoIf you don't like OTA updates, why not just buy a car from a manufacturer that doesn't do them? Why make it so that even people who do like them can't have them?
- whoknew1122 5y agoBecause, once you're on the road, your car affects everyone else around you. Have automatic updates for your personal machine. If Windows pushes out a patch that bricks your computer, I'm not impacted. If Tesla pushes out an OTA that is buggy and causes accidents, I'm affected.
- throwaway894345 5y agoIf an update "is buggy and causes accidents", why does it matter whether it was delivered OTA or not?
- juancampa 5y agoHaving the option is different from banning it completely. If you have a Tesla, you can opt-out from automatic OTA updates [0]. 0: https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/opt-out-on-updates.173301/ https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/opt-out-on-updates.1...
