I dont know why but unlike chromium we have very little "Firefox alternatives".
I always thought of Firefox as more developer friendly but lately there is very little difference between chromes and Firefox devtools, instead it seems like Firefox keeps trying to appeal to the general audience... But all the general audience cares about is what it knows. And they know chrome because when you go into Google it tells you to install chrome, a "faster" browser.
Not to mention that a lot of websites that rely on JavaScript dont work as well in Firefox like they do on chrome, it is the reason why I have both installed.
Anyway, it seems like a lost battle. But I'm sure google will keep them going because otherwise they become a monopoly in the sector.
- freediver 5y agoIt could be a misconception. https://twitter.com/vladquant/status/1492181669788356611 https://twitter.com/vladquant/status/1492181669788356611 Market share is not balanced, yes, but browser diversity is not a problem.
- zamadatix 5y agoQuantity is not the same as diversity.
- rossy 5y agomacOS and Linux have some WebKit-based browsers, but there are none on Windows. It's all Chromium. (Please prove me wrong! I'd love a WebKit-based browser to test webpages in Windows. I'm currently using Playwright's WebKit build for this.)
- freediver 5y agoInteresting! Can you post its Speedometer 2.0 score compared to Chrome/Firefox?
