Welcome to 2030. I own nothing, have no privacy, and life has never been better

- greenyoda 5y ago> This looks like an intent of satire which could be perfectly written by US right wing nuts confusing European welfare states promoting a healthy urban style (and public transportation) with totalitarism. ... > Dear old-fashioned Americans... Actually, it was written by a European: "Ida Auken, Member of Parliament, Parliament of Denmark" Here's her bio: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ida_Auken https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ida_Auken She's not right-wing either: she's a Social Democrat, and a former member of the Socialist People's Party.
- djohnston 5y agoIf anything we're going to see a de-ubranisation as more jobs go perma-remote. Get over it.
- anthk 5y agoThen I hope everyone switches into electric transportation. Even trucks. Also, hope you get, too, something akin the ITER to generate the huge power source you'll need.
- waffle_maniac 5y ago> It would scare some old fart or two, but this is 2021. Everyone can see that the European Union even cares for your private data, unlike the US. Brave browser not invented in the EU. Can the EU even enforce GDPR effectively? https://brave.com/dpa-report-2020/ https://brave.com/dpa-report-2020/ > Dear old-fashioned Americans: your lifestyle based on being spread over and using the car for everything will die. Get over it. Having populations being too spread/sparse over it's an economical and environmental disaster. It may worked in the 19th century, not any more. Absolutely nothing is going to stop Americans from building houses and living anywhere in the country that they want. The environmental impact of having a few kids is an order of magnitude worse for the planet than people living in remote areas. If nothing is off limits perhaps you should look inward.
- anthk 5y agoBrave? Sure? https://spyware.neocities.org/articles/brave.html https://spyware.neocities.org/articles/brave.html
- waffle_maniac 5y agoHilarious. None of those criticisms are even remotely privacy defeating in the current context yet Brave is marked as spyware. Is the author even aware of what real spyware is or are they pretending words don't matter?
- userbinator 5y agoI don't know how people think increasing population density and being dependent on crowded public transportation is "healthy urban style". More like "factory farm". I've visited parts of Asia which are like that, and beyond the brief feelings of novelty, the dystopian atmosphere became evident. Nope. Do not want.
- aaaaaaaaata 5y agoWho's benefitting from those societies?
- dionian 5y agoNo. 完全不要
- dang 5y agoPlease do not use HN for ideological or nationalistic flamewar. It's not what this site is for, and it destroys what it is for. https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html Edit: looks like we've unfortunately had to ask you this kind of thing many times already: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=29042093 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=29042093 (Oct 2021) https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=26881003 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=26881003 (April 2021) https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=26582160 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=26582160 (March 2021) https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=22724414 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=22724414 (March 2020) https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=13670034 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=13670034 (Feb 2017) https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11395373 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11395373 (March 2016)
- anthk 5y agoMore than flamewars, it may be the little spark which ignites a good change in America. It's a huge country with zillions of resources, they could do it great. They could call it the 2nd New Deal, but now being forever.
- gus_massa 5y agoI only hope you don't get fired. There is another interesting related story "Manna – Two Views of Humanity’s Future" http://marshallbrain.com/manna.htm http://marshallbrain.com/manna.htm
- hitpointdrew 5y agoSounds like fucking hell on earth. I’ll fight to death to maintain private property rights.
- purplecats 5y agoMakes me wonder what kind of things existed that people have had this attitude for in the past, but are no longer. And since it didn't exist for me to get accustomed to (and therefore have a loss aversion towards), I just take it for granted.
- FooBarBizBazz 5y agoSpouses?
- orhmeh09 5y agoWell, if we’re sharing: I won’t, especially since I don’t have much.
- reidjs 5y agoIn my experience people with a lot of material worth tend to be the least generous. Of course there are exceptions on both sides.
- hitpointdrew 5y agoYou don’t need to have much to see how terrible an idea this is. Do you have a car? Do you really want some communal, self-driving taxi with no personality taking you around? Who and how often are these going to be cleaned? Imagine you are on your way to a nice date and ride pulls up and there some gross McDonald’s bags on the floor, or a dirty diaper, or used condom. People are fucking gross and there is a large group of them that won’t or can’t have common decency to clean up after themselves. When “everyone” owns something then nobody owns it, and nobody takes proper care of it (sure there might be some company tasked with maintenance but they will only do just enough to keep it barely acceptable). I mean you lose so much just by giving up vehicle ownership alone. What about the sense of pride you get when change the oil, wash, vacuum, and then put the windows down cruise around and turn up your favorite song? You aren’t ever getting any of that ever again. No thanks, hard pass.
- jimmyjazz14 5y agoI'm not a crazy conspiracy theorist or anything but the World Economic Forum has started to creep me out lately.

- aaaaaaaaata 5y agoand now we know why the commenter felt the need to preface his comment the way they did!
- civilized 5y agoIt doesn't really explain why we will have no privacy. I get why you might think that based on today's world, but this world seems deliberately utopian. Although it claims it isn't. The vision seems incoherent in that respect. It can't seem to decide if it's a utopian vision or a vision of where current trends are taking us.
- SuperCuber 5y agoYeah, for some reason it makes the leap of "everything is free" -> "the algorithm knows best" -> "no privacy"
- cgriswald 5y agoThe article is incredibly vague about how everything would actually work. However, to be fair, it's hard to imagine how much privacy you can have if anyone can borrow your living room for their meetings because it's not actually yours.
- edmcnulty101 5y agoLive in the pod, eat the bugs, own nothing and be happy!
- kizer 5y agoIf everything is a service, you have no actual control. You may feel you do, but you only have control within the services' matrices of operation. If you have no control, you're not free. You may feel the freest you've ever felt, but you're a slave. So long as we still have the right to own a patch of this earth, not an apartment or a timeshare or etc. etc., but a lot of land, we will be able to talk about some kind of actual freedom. Because land doesn't depend on anyone or anything except the earth's outer mantle, and so whatever you put on your plot you control, including your person, and so you are free.
- tohnjitor 5y agoKlaus Schwab would make an excellent Bond villain if he were a fictional character. Unfortunately he is not.
- FooBarBizBazz 5y agoHe's right at the heart of a bunch of organizations that make for great conspiracy fodder (Davos, the Bilderburg Group, etc), but what bad stuff has he actually done? I'm aware of nothing. He seems like a well-intentioned technocrat.
- dang 5y agoPlease don't post flamewar tropes to HN. They just lead to repetitive flamewars, which have nothing to do with what this site is supposed to be for. We want curious conversation here. https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
- throwaway984393 5y ago.........tf are you even talking about dude? I've never seen this posted here before but I really like the writing and the ideas presented. This could be the plot to a Philip K. Dick novel.
- akvadrako 5y agoAs you can see with the past link, it has been posted several times, but never made the front page.
- UIUC_06 5y agoMy sentiments exactly. Someone is trolling. This is old stuff. They left out the part about how we're all going to be vegans, except for the old guard who can eat bugs and pretend it's beef. Also, next time you send flame bait like this, mention how our cryptocurrency will not be usable except for healthy things the government wants us to buy.
- Fervicus 5y agoThis is hardly a conspiracy theory: https://12ft.io/proxy?q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.telegraph.co.uk%2Fbusiness%2F2021%2F06%2F21%2Fbank-england-tells-ministers-intervene-digital-currency-programming%2F https://12ft.io/proxy?q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.telegraph.co.uk%2F...
- UIUC_06 5y agoThose are your words, not mine. I didn't say there weren't any people who believed that. dang said it was flamewar bait, which it was.
- stemlord 5y agoImportant context at the end of the article: "Author's note: Some people have read this blog as my utopia or dream of the future. It is not. It is a scenario showing where we could be heading - for better and for worse. I wrote this piece to start a discussion about some of the pros and cons of the current technological development. When we are dealing with the future, it is not enough to work with reports. We should start discussions in many new ways. This is the intention with this piece." Apparently it's a speculative fiction. Reads like an Onion article with a very trigger happy hook, which is why I guess a lot of people like to pass it as NWO propaganda.
- gumby 5y agoWhy is there so often an assumption that when the robots can do everything people will suffer? Surely the robots can create fake jobs and enough supporting infrastructure so people who want to work can believe they are. Wouldn’t that be the kindest solution? Certainly kinder than the current infrastructure of bullshit jobs.
