I find FaceID a lot less convenient, as double clicking rapidly on my dominant hand is difficult for me due to an medical/accessibility issue and of course having to pull down my mask to authenticate is *literally* pathological in a pandemic.
I noticed double click speed is also difficult for my grandparents who don’t have the same condition I do but they had no issues with older TouchID based phones. Double click-to-FaceID comes up quite frequently with use, enough to give my grandparents the impression that “this phone won’t work for me”. It’s a shame.
I’m strictly in the Apple ecosystem but was pretty surprised when I saw a friend’s Google phone with fingerprint based biometric authentication through the screen. Hope Apple develops something similar.

- jks 5y agoI don't have related medical issues either, but sometimes my thumb is stiff from the cold and doing the double click through a phone case is difficult.

Hope Apple develops something similar. That's pretty much standard on all flagship Android-based phones, and has been for some time ( i want to say around two years). It's pretty handy because your fingers are already there if you're going to use the phone ( either index if it's lying on a flat surface or thumb if it's in your hand).
