William Gibson’s Neuromancer: Does the Edge Still Bleed?
- mindcrime 5y agoI urge you to read and re-read not only Neuromancer, but Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive, the subsequent books in the Sprawl trilogy. Interesting timing for this to show up. I literally just started a re-read of the entire Sprawl Trilogy two days ago. After finishing that, I'm going to re-read Virtual Light then finish the rest of the Bridge Trilogy (the latter two books of which I never finished when I started it years ago). Being halfway through Neuromancer on what is about my 5th or 6th read of it, I'd say it still holds up very well. As this article points out, some things don't seem as "futuristic" anymore, but that's OK. Like TFA says, getting beyond the simple "weirdness" of it allows one to think more deeply about the underlying themes and deeper meaning of the story. TBH, I've always felt that Neuromancer was a book that required multiple readings to really appreciate. If you haven't read the Sprawl Trilogy, or at least Neuromancer I can't recommend doing so strongly enough. Or if you have read it, consider a re-read. This stuff is worth reading again (and again, and again) IMO.
