Sure you can document the ecological impact, but who's measuring the economic/cultural/social impact (positive and/or negative)? How do I measure an airline-sized carbon impact against a billion cat videos? Is there even a framework for that kind of accounting? Until there is I think no amount of documentation is going to change people's behavior in the large. IMO the article is much better when citing specific impacts like noise pollution and water rights abuse.
