Who was wrong, UK or Sweden? Both, of course. Both tried to archive herd immunity in 2020 spring by mass infection till they realized that they are wrong. Then they continued to let people to die for months from 2020 fall till 2021 spring (Sweden even till summer 2021) until vaccines arrived.
Only this was a turning point for UK and Sweden because they managed to vaccinate relatively fast the people who really needed protection from vaccines.
If you want to learn from somebody, learn from Denmark.

- imartin2k 5y agoCorrect. Sweden's strategy during the first 3 waves was largely a failure and human tragedy with way too many people ending up dead or in severe conditions in hospitals, until vaccines arrived. But for some reason, most Swedes are unable or unwilling to acknowledge this level of suffering that was brought onto the population (particularly onto older people and other vulnerable groups) and how the public was systematically mislead about the virus by the official channels, instead focusing on the more speculative suffering that they believe was avoided by abstaining from harder restrictions.
