This is the kind of physics that's both exciting and boring to me as an outsider.
Exciting because black holes are mysterious and how do they work, but boring because there is a gravitational singularity there, which is fancy talk for general relativity or English not being useful to describe it. So you need a theory that can unite gravitational and quantum effects, but because quantum physics is not intuitive the answer to the question will never make any sense, or make black holes less mysterious on a human level. Only physicists will be able to enjoy the answer. Unless a black hole leads to another universe, but the rule so far with quantum physics is that if anyone but physicists are happy with the answer then you have an untestable interpretation. Like the many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics. Parallel universes? When can we go? Oh, you can't ever interact with them? You are probably making this up then.
