Like an external disk on the network. Closer to a NAS than to something like Google Drive or Dropbox. We can FTP/SFTP/Borg/rsync to it. I haven't explored all options in detail. I use Hetzner because it's cheap and supports BorgBackup. I used to keep backups on GDrive but all the anecdotes about accounts locked by bots and non-existent customer support made me uncertain about using it for long-term photo storage (10-20 years time frame). S3/EFS network costs were too expensive for my 10s of GBs.
