Tangential, I remember seeing a program a few years ago in which ice creams were made with colours which didn’t match the colour typically associated with the flavour. Purple lemon, and green orange, and so on. What was interesting was this one change completely destroyed people’s ability to sense and understand what they were tasting: they could believe they were eating the flavour which was associated with the colour, even when the flavour was utterly different.
