Was Sweden right about Covid all along?

However, Tegnell had an approach to evaluate all aspects and make cautious decisions based on his previous public health experience and science that was available at the time and also adjust those decisions promptly. I wish more public health experts were like him.
- Arnt 5y agoI want to post this photo of Stockholm airport. Some people have very wrong impressions about what the not-lockdown there was like. Why issue lockdown orders if you can make a gentle request to to the populace and get this result? https://i.imgur.com/Fc0Kc1L.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Fc0Kc1L.jpg
- NoPie 5y agoI think the narrative that the UK people don't trust the government and in Sweden people do is not really true. Lockdowns is one thing but when time came for vaccination, the UK didn't have vaccine mandates and yet managed to have 90% vaccination rate which is similar to Sweden (depending how you count). It seems that the UK could have followed Sweden's model with respect to lockdowns and would have achieved comparable results of adherence as well.
- nojokes 5y agoWho was wrong, UK or Sweden? Both, of course. Both tried to archive herd immunity in 2020 spring by mass infection till they realized that they are wrong. Then they continued to let people to die for months from 2020 fall till 2021 spring (Sweden even till summer 2021) until vaccines arrived. Only this was a turning point for UK and Sweden because they managed to vaccinate relatively fast the people who really needed protection from vaccines. If you want to learn from somebody, learn from Denmark. Here is Our World in Data comparison between 3 countries https://ourworldindata.org/explorers/coronavirus-data-explorer?zoomToSelection=true&facet=none&uniformYAxis=0&pickerSort=asc&pickerMetric=location&Metric=Confirmed+deaths&Interval=Cumulative&Relative+to+Population=true&Color+by+test+positivity=false&country=GBR~SWE~DNK https://ourworldindata.org/explorers/coronavirus-data-explor...
- imartin2k 5y agoCorrect. Sweden's strategy during the first 3 waves was largely a failure and human tragedy with way too many people ending up dead or in severe conditions in hospitals, until vaccines arrived. But for some reason, most Swedes are unable or unwilling to acknowledge this level of suffering that was brought onto the population (particularly onto older people and other vulnerable groups) and how the public was systematically mislead about the virus by the official channels, instead focusing on the more speculative suffering that they believe was avoided by abstaining from harder restrictions.
