Except the documentation is terrible.
Guix is communicably slightly better but ideologically slightly worse. Shepherd is lovely.
How about someone creates a dsl in Rust that manages declarative system configurations at a _very_ high level of abstraction? We need the declarative purity, the categorical proofiness, the simplistic easiness of nix/guix, but we also need to make it actually useable.

I'm personally more interested in a "rustible" kind of tooling, but i can definitely see myself writing packages/abstractions for a "rustix" too. As nixops and guix deploy have shown, the two concepts are very related. Where do other likeminded people meet and talk about this? Should we create a chan on a friendly IRC/MUC server? (please not on a platform which requires web clients, or where the bridges to IRC/XMPP are bad)

- southerntofu 5y agoWell package definitions is what i was referring to as "rustix". While grandparent comment was more about configuration management which i referred to as "rustible". I'm more interested in the latter, but i can see the appeal for both. Being able to generate docs (cargo doc) for the entire project and run doctests across all packages to ensure all provided examples actually work sounds very useful.
