I dove in recently and am enjoying it on a home server. The only trouble I had was with setting up fuse filesystems correctly. A couple times it completely refused to boot because I got some fuse option wrong and a filesystem failed to mount. These were options that worked correctly when started dynamically through "nixos-rebuild switch" but not on boot through /etc/fstab. I've written my own overlays and some derivations for my own tools and genuinely enjoy the language.
