I am not so sanguine about AI.
AI and computers in general don’t create new power structures so much as as amplify existing power structures.
Africa’s biggest problems are the result of colonization by the European powers:
1) Destruction of indigenous power structures and leadership. This left a huge vacuum, so during the Dr-colonization post WWII, power was often seized by strong men who wielded it to their benefit (see Idi Ammon and Robert Mugabe)
2) The drawing of borders based on European convenience without taking into account existing tribal structures and land. This has lead to horrific civil wars.
AI is a tool and mirror. How it end up being used is dependent on who wields it.
- sacrosancty 5y ago> are the result of colonization Is that supported by science or made-up?
- RcouF1uZ4gsC 5y ago> Is that supported by science I don’t think that can ever be supported by “science” unless you can have another Africa that was never colonized. However, I think it can be supported by historical inference and anthropology.
- throwawaylinux 5y agoI'm not sure the facts really agree. Japan had its power structures destroyed and borders redrawn, so did India, China, Germany, Russia. Don't have to go back too far for that to have happened in most countries including all of Europe and the USA.
