We are only hearing one side. I worked in graduate research and we had some very angry and difficult professors who were denied tenure despite solid publications. They had a lot of challenges getting folks wanting to work for them, and typically had to farm overseas to (barely) fill their lab. They were terrible leaders, difficult people, and mediocre at best in teaching. Even with a solid background in research they were viewed as a liability and there was the tough decision of hoping the devil you don’t know (whoever takes that spot) than the devil you do know, who you are denying tenure. Also, I don’t see anywhere that this is about race and not sure why he is bring it up.
