Google.com tests a busier home page with a row of info cards
- lopis 5y agoI mean, that's totally fine. How often do people even visit their home page? People who want to search things, just use the URL bar, so you might as well make your homepage useful.
- colordrops 5y agoGoogle can fight their death about as well as anyone can fight wrinkles that come with age. It can be slowed but is inevitable.
- bugfix 5y agoHow long until they go full Yahoo?
- guerrilla 5y agoRemember eXcite?
- johnatwork 5y agoThe main reason Google did well in the past is that it was a fast alternative to the busy Yahoo!.
- eyelidlessness 5y agoI don’t think this is quite true. The main reason Google did well was because their search results were reliably good. The clean homepage wasn’t so much a contributing factor as a boast, saying that they were confident search could replace the “directory” style others like Yahoo provided at the time. And, at the time, they were right. I have little doubt that they would’ve failed if they had the same interface with today’s search results.
- hbn 5y agoLooks a lot like the content from the Google Feed to the left of the Pixel homescreen, meaning it'll be entirely ads, clickbait, and spoilers for shows you're in the middle of watching
- peanut_worm 5y agowhyd they get rid of iGoogle
- karmakaze 5y agoI just thought that too. I used to use it quite a lot. Googling for iGoogle turns up igoogleportal.com[0] as the top result. [0] https://igoogleportal.com/ https://igoogleportal.com/
- neo_spike 5y agoUsing the get started link on igoogleportal.com redirects to igtab.com . Looking at the page you'd find a disclaimer that it's not associated with Google . Legal disclaimer shows jurisdiction of the website seems to be Akola, Maharashtra , India.
- hyakosm 5y agoIt reminds me the old iGoogle personalized homepage with tabs, themes and movable window widgets with news, inbox, weather, maps, calendar and other things.
- CincinnatiMan 5y agoI was going to say the same thing. My parents loved their iGoogle home page and were sad when it went away.
