Show HN: A better way to consume news
The news business model is fear = clicks = $$. I built a website to combat that to some degree by giving the user to pick the topics before seeing the headlines and also seeing both sides of every topic's reporting.
The NLP model is still improving and happy to hear feedback.
- moistly 5y agoSuggestion: don’t default the mood selector to “angry face.” Put it in the middle. My first glance at the page gave me the impression that all the news is horrible!
- intersteel 5y agoThank you for the feedback. I have been wondering what the best way to represent things could be. The home page starts off with "no filters" but news tends to be skewed to the negative so the default is angry-face.
- moistly 5y agoNews skews negative, but you purport to combat that; the headline mood should align with your goal.
- intersteel 5y agoFair point. Done.
- moistly 5y ago“Filter topics by mood” still positions the slider to the left (angry) side. “Mood” column is still predominantly angry faces. IPad, Safari, haven’t upgraded to the latest OS.
- intersteel 5y agoIf you land on exactly newssnips.fyi then the website redirects you to a preset slider value.
- moistly 5y agoAh. Perhaps dang can rewrite the URL linked to the headline.
