I just got another notification that exposures are still being tracked on my behalf. Anecdata, but nobody I know has ever gotten notified of anything. Even people that had COVID (including myself). Perhaps you're right, it does seem rather useless.

Actually had a few legit warnings where a knew I had contact - but also had ones where I was not able to track down a risk contact.
