There are things like debt, obligations, extended family, etc... We're a double income no kids couple.... We haven't saved much money living in NYC, with our parents needing financial assistance and residual debts. Dietary constraints also make it much more expensive to live in US.(celiac and lactose intolerance add to costs) So it's not unfathomable.
