Cool!
I've been using Google Cloud for personal projects and the company I work for for many years. I've yet to experience an outage that isn't our own fault.
I didn't have many support cases in those years. I vividly remember one case tho. I asked about some Kubernetes billing I got. Used the chat and immediately got someone who appeared to know what he was talking about. After some explaining I understood where the amount came from. Nevertheless he didn't let me go and made absolutely sure that I thoroughly understand how the pricing was structured and why I was billed this way (had something to do with another one of my projects also using Kubernetes).
- kebsup 5y agoMy experience was also very good. I've accidentally racked up like 250 USD in charges, and after contacting support, I was given a refund and just told to be "more careful next time". The support guy also told me that he made a similar mistake when he was paying with it. On the other hand, the fact that you can't set a hard stop on charges is terrible.
- kulikalov 5y agoYou kinda can. Use quotas and limit scaling.
- davidkuennen 5y agoGood advice to limit pricing. I use all my ressources (Kubernetes, Cloud SQL, Storage, CDN, LB, DNS) without auto scaling active.
- aardshark 5y agoUsing Google Cloud I've experienced several outages and service disruptions over the years. I'd guess something like 1-2 a year. There was one as recently as last week: https://status.cloud.google.com/incidents/46bP9UWxaLXHyCUQdjPR https://status.cloud.google.com/incidents/46bP9UWxaLXHyCUQdj... I was wondering why my downloads from Google Cloud Storage were not working. Then I checked the status dashboard and it made sense. Further, the failed download in Google Cloud broke Chrome, because Chrome seemed to expect something to download for every time I had clicked (the little notification number went up), but never actually added anything to the Downloads page. Chrome wasn't able to download anything until I restarted it, which was another unexpected bug. I'm not sure why there wasn't graceful error failure at some point of this process. Anyway, usually these outages are fixed quite quickly, but they do happen.
