- bckr 5y agoWow, I just spent half an hour reading all of those. Thanks.
- jvolkman 5y agoNone of those were GCP services.
- sofixa 5y agoThere are zero GCP services decommissioned, only a few deprecated ones ( e.g. Firestore, for which there's a compatibility layer available in it's replacement). In general, Google don't kill services you pay for. Google Play Music and Firestore were migrated over to newer services, with varying success ( personally I'm happy with YouTube Music, but some people missed some features).
- EE84M3i 5y agoGoogle has also deprecated several useful features from AppEngine.

(Shutdown email lists it as "Google Cloud Zync Render", so definitely seems like part of GCP to me) Not sure if this one was technically part of GCP: https://web.archive.org/web/20210701153646/https://chatbase.com/documentation/docs-overview https://web.archive.org/web/20210701153646/https://chatbase.... Seems like they'll shut down more peripheral / niche GCP services. TBF, relying on non-core services from any cloud provider is asking for trouble, IMO...
- sofixa 5y agoAWS don't kill anything. Deprecated services like DocumentDB and first gen EC2 instances still function, you just can't create new ones.

- kd913 5y ago>Google don't kill services you pay for Yea kind of disagree with that. Feel kind of sorry for those who paid for google stadia, google glass or google onhub....
- sofixa 5y agoStadia isn't dead, it's alive and well ( i use it, there are new additions in February, new promos and the games i already have run). Apparently there are also plans for the future, but we'll see about that. OnHub: > In December 2021, Google announced that OnHub routers would no longer receive any software or security updates. After December 19, 2022, other features would be disabled like updating the Wi-Fi network settings, adding additional Wi-Fi devices, running speed tests, or using Google Assistant. That's a decent timeline and after that the devices will still function albeit in a very limited way. Google Glass was never out of beta, was it?
- charcircuit 5y ago>Google Glass was never out of beta, was it? It's been out of beta for a while. The Enterprise Edition 2 came out in 2019. The last system image update is dated 10 months ago.
- kd913 5y agoStadia has been deprioritised. It may hobble on, but it's no GamePass, Steam or Geforce Now. Heck at least with geforce now all the games still exist in my steam lib. Issues aren't going to be prioritised, it's not gonna be a tier 1 platform and Google isn't exactly inspiring confidence in the future of the platform. I am glad I got the stadia pro controller for free and never bought anything from there. >That's a decent timeline and after that the devices will still function albeit in a very limited way. 5 years for a router? You are prevented from updating the Wifi network settings or adding additional Wifi devices. That is pretty damn basics, and pretty terrible support for a router. Overall EOL support seems pretty damn terrible if you ask me. At least in comparison to say Microsoft, Apple, Valve, Nvidia or Amazon.
