So many posts on HN are met with skepticism, pessimism, or just an overall negative tone. I cared more about being right than being kind. My ideal self would exhibit both kindness and skepticism. I don't always live up to my goals, but it's possible for a pessimist to be kind and considerate. If anyone needs an example, Mark Twain probably fit the bill.
