U.S. ‘excess deaths’ during pandemic surpassed 1M, with Covid killing most
- ggm 5y agoIf you want a different perspective on excess mortality, do some reading about how human demographers work with the population dynamics of mainland China during the cultural revolution. You can tell a lot about cohorts some decades back by stats about birth and death rates in the present. We will probably be doing similar things worldwide for the current 5 year window we are 2-3 years inside. It may take decades to get the stats right. The overall trend in world population has been slowing down (still increasing, but decelerating not accelerating) for some time, and much though I regret Covid mortality I do want to say I do not think it will significantly alter the trend line. It is possible there will be a longterm bump in schooling, university, birth/death statistics but not trend-altering. For many economies, end of life cost is a high burden on healthcare which drags out for decades. Nobody will want to own it, but that health economic outcome may look very different. An example where you might see it is the price of managed care housing which is a package of land, home and care. The pricing is set by the provider usually, it's not an open market. If they have surplus care residency on book it will show up multi year in their tax declaration and shareholder declaration. They may well price downward to try and achieve some kpi. For any individual who has to deal with covid related deaths in the family I'm not trying to be a troll I am truly sorry at what has happened to people everywhere.
