Ask HN: Is There a Non-Violent Communication Language Converter?
I've been studying Non-Violent Communication by Marshal Rosenberg and while the concepts are semi-easy to understand / learn, I am struggling with applying them.
This got me thinking - Is there a website / app that you could type / talk into and it would convert your 'normal speak' into a 'NVC speak'?
So I guess 1) is there an existing site that does that?
And 2) if not, man someone should seriously build something like that (I wish I knew where to even begin with this kind of thing...).
Thank you!
- pizza 5y agoNot that I know of, but there easily could be! GPT-3 could take some examples to do this with quite a small number of examples.
- evo_9 5y agoNice, thank you for the ref to GPT-3 I'm completely clueless how I would approach this idea.
- pizza 5y agoBy the way I think this is a really valuable idea. Learning about NVC and what violence is in communication has been a really high payoff/cost skill. I urge you to pursue this further :) What you want to look into is "few-shot learning" - few-shot means you only provide a few examples (like say somewhere between five and a hundred), and then it infers the result. Other search terms that could help you towards your goal: gpt-neo (open source GPT-3), gpt-3 fine tuning. Also the OpenAI documentation is pretty good at saying exactly what code you need to get results from GPT3 https://beta.openai.com/examples https://beta.openai.com/examples
- andrei_says_ 5y agoIt is not that easy because you need to guess what’s driving the person and what they’re feeling. It’s beyond just language transformation. It is mainly a body practice often mistakenly taught as a language-only practice. I’ve been teaching it for a while and involving somatic awareness of one’s emotional state is key. What’s a phrase you’d like to be able to run through such a service?
