Before I thought about Lithium batteries in EVs, I thought about liquid acid batteries. It would be easy enough to have "gas" stations where you could drain the elecrolyte fluid and refill with recharged fluid. "Recharging" an EV would then only take a few minutes like pumping gasoline.
