Statically-typed, Rust-like programming language
Hey guys,
I've been working on a Rust-like programming language written in Rust. I've worked on this compiler for the past months, and it's coming along very well.
The language features closures, higher-order function support, recursion, among other interesting things.
Here's the GitHub link, take a look!: https://github.com/geckolang/gecko
Also, come hang out on the official Discord server, I'm very interested on the compiler-design topic and can help you out if you have any questions about the project or designing your own compiler!

- Tepix 5y agoInteresting. You probably know that Gecko is also the name for the Mozilla browser engine. Perhaps picking the name of another oxide (just like rust) would have been a better option? "Red iron" sounds cool https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron(III)_oxide https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron(III)_oxide
- atlx 5y agoGood point, not the first time I hear that too. I'm considering changing the name of the language in the near future, to something more unique. Although it's probably going to be somewhat of a challenge since there's already like pretty much a popular project for any short word...
- Phithagoras 5y agoMay I suggest Hematite?
- moasda 5y agoWow, seems to be a lot of work with personal learnings. Can you elaborate on what problem it is trying to solve, e.g. compared to Rust?
- atlx 5y agoWell, there isn't a specific problem its made to solve. Instead, it's more of a learning project, but intended to be a fully-functional one of course. Also it'll be a general purpose programming language, so can be used for anything.
